General description
Scompro is a web application designed especially to collect clearance and promotional sale announcements, which can be searched by category and geographic area. Further information on off-line commerce will be made available, with retailers creating their shop profile and shoppers sharing their experience with comments, shop reviews, etc. Although the new service is going to benefit retailers largely, shoppers are the real protagonists.
The potential website users are:
- Shoppers: are all of us, with a concentration in the population between 20 and 50 years of age living in large urban centers. Advantages: shoppers can find bargains, viewing search results on a city map.
- Retailers: especially independent retailers need to gain visibility on the web, but commercial chains are also going to be involved. Advantages: special sales can become visible in a larger area (nation-wide) than the neighborhood where advertising placards and other materials are usually distributed, especially in the case of clearance sales. Registered retailers will be visible even if they have no special sales going on and can offer special discounts to registered users of Scompro. A variety of pay-for visibility options will be available.
Scompro's innovation does not lie so much in new technology, as in the way in which the existing technology can be used.
Scompro is an innovative service, a unique website hosting two mutually-interested communities, that of retailers who need to become visible on-line and promote their special sales, and that of shoppers who seek good deals together with the pleasure of shopping off-line, verifying product quality personally and relating to other people (the retailer and other shoppers).
The website is conceived as a user-friendly tool to look for bargains. The initiative is meant to exploit user generated content in order to create a valuable information database on commerce and in particular on special sales and is based on the typical properties of web 2.0: user participation and rating/feedback mechanisms; reputation; social networking.
The site is itself a virtual meeting place, where the retailer will be able to communicate with old and new customers while the latter's comments and feedbacks will be a guarantee to the quality of the information. A progressive implementation of social networking features will allow for an even greater interaction among users and sharing of information, thus making Scompro the first social network in the field of commerce. Content quality and quantity – the first step toward increasing visitor numbers – is going to be achieved through customer care, monitoring and editing of content, stimuli to discussion through forum and blog posts.
